Funding Shortfall Means Transit Cuts!
You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the
directions at the bottom.

Once again, transit needs legislative action to prevent service cuts and fare increases.
Recent projections show that Metropolitan Area transit is facing a $60 million shortfall between expenses and anticipated revenue. For Greater Minnesota transit, the funding gap is $6 million for the biennium -- about 10% of the Greater Minnesota transit budget. The Governor has pledged not to increase taxes and has not included a funding increase to cover the transit gap in his budget. Unless the legislature takes action, the funding shortfall will have to be bridged with further transit service cuts and fare increases. This will leave many people stranded without the service they need to maintain their mobility.

Prevent Further Transit Cuts! Dear Governor,
I am writing to ask you to prevent further fare increases and service cuts to transit systems throughout the state. Transit budgets have been cut repeatedly over the years, resulting in routes being cut and fares increased. This year, receipts from the motor vehicle sales tax are down while fuel costs and health care costs are up dramatically. Transit systems now face another budget shortfall that will have to be addressed with further service cuts and fare increases unless the legislature acts to prevent this loss of mobility.
Thousands of Minnesota residents, including people in your district, rely on transit service to maintain their indepedence and mobility. Please do all you can to increase transit funding and provide stable, dedicated funding that will ensure a strong future for transit systems all over the State of Minnesota. Our economic development and quality of life depend on a transportation system that works for everyone. Your name and address here
