Federal Transit Funding Needs to Increase
You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the
directions at the bottom.

Congress has passed less transit funding than needed
Congress recently passed a six-year authorization bill for transportation called SAFETEA-LU. The bill sets out transit spending levels for 2005 through 2009. For fiscal year 2006, the bill authorizes $8.6 billion in transit funding. However, the 2006 Transportation Appropriations bills passed by both the House and Senate have lower funding levels for transit. The House bill would provide $8.4 billion for transit and the Senate bill would provide $8.2 billion for transit. Congress needs to provide the $8.6 billion set under SAFETEA-LU.

Provide the SAFETEA-LU level of transit funding Dear Representative,
As a strong transit supporter, I'm writing to ask you to contact members of the Senate and House Appropriations Committees and members of the conference committee reconciling the FY2006 Transportation, Treasury and HUD Appropriations bill and urge them to fund transit at the $8.6 billion level promised under SAFETEA-LU.
Since the FY 2006 Transportation Appropriations bill was developed before SAFETEA-LU was completed, it does not fund new transit programs authorized under SAFETEA-LU, make important policy changes required by the new law, or provide the same overall level of funding authorized and guaranteed under SAFETEA-LU.
Please urge Appropriations leaders to reconcile the FY 2006 Transportation Appropriations bill with SAFETEA-LU and to fully fund the authorized and guaranteed FY 2006 transit program.
Transit service is critical to our quality of life in Minnesota. We need increased federal funds to meet the needs of citizens all around the state who rely on transit services to live their lives.
Thank you for your consideration of this request. I look forward to hearing from you. Your name and address here
