Remind Legislators of the Need for Transit Funding
You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the
directions at the bottom.

Transit funding has been tied to building stadiums
For many years, transit advocates have urged the legislature to impose an increase in the sales tax in the 7 county metropolitan area with the revenue dedicated to transit.
A bill to fund a new stadiums has been advanced that includes transit funding through the imposition of a 1/2 cent sales tax increase that would be split between stadiums and transit.
While our top priority right now is passage of the constitutional amendment to dedicate the motor vehicle sales tax to highways and transit, this bill provides an opportunity to highlight the need for additional transit funding. The MVST dedication is a critical first step, but not a panacea. Additional funding for transit from a metro sales tax increase would also free up more of the MVST for Greater Minnesota transit.

Provide Additional Transit Funding to Improve Our Quality of Life Dear Senator,
Minnesota has growing transit needs throughout the state. Not only has the state failed to keep up with the increased demand, the lack of funding has led to service cuts and significant fare increases.
In order to implement the plans of both the Metropolitan Council and MNDOT's Office of Transit, additional funding is needed through the passage of the constitutional amendment to dedicate the motor vehicle sales tax, increased general obligation bonding and an increased regional sales tax.
Most major metropolitan areas dedicate a portion of their sales tax to transit, allowing them to compete more effectively for federal transit funds. Please support additional funding for transit and allow Minnesotans more options that are better for the environment, the economy and our energy independence.
