Action Alert: Senate leadership is the last line of defense against transit cuts

mntransit.org

Senate leadership is the last line of defense against transit cuts

You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the directions at the bottom.

Issue

Senate leaders need to hear from you one more time. Tell them to keep fighting for transit.

Background

Negotiations on a transportation bill have stalled in the last few days, and the Senate's opposition to transit cuts is one of the key remaining issues. The voices of you and other transit supporters — through postcards, e-mails, meetings, and phone calls to legislators — have clearly made a difference in bolstering the Senate's position. Though the Senate is outnumbered and has already agreed not to raise taxes to balance the budget, Senate leaders are refusing to go along with the House and Governor's transportation plans because they include severe cuts to transit.

In the final bill negotiations that are taking place right now, Senate leaders need to hear from you as soon as possible, to thank them for fighting for transit and to urge them to keep fighting against the proposed transit cuts. Thank you very much for your support, it makes a difference.

Please keep fighting for transit

Dear Senator Rest,

We know that transit is one of the key issues in the transportation bill and that the Senate is fighting against the deep transit cuts in the House and Governor’s transportation plans. Thank you for recognizing the importance of transit during the final days of the legislative session.

As you know, good and reasonably-priced transit service is critical to an efficient, cost-effective transportation system. With the transit cuts proposed by the House and Governor, many transit riders will be forced to get back into their cars, and highway congestion will get even worse. Furthermore, seniors and other transit-dependent people will suffer. Transit riders should not suffer unduly to balance the state's budget.

Thank you for standing up for transit, and I urge you to keep fighting!

Sincerely,

Your name and address here
