mntransit.org

Tell the State Senate today to fight for transit

You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the directions at the bottom.

Issue

Transit funding is being cut at the state legislature

Background

The transportation bill that the Governor proposed and the House recently passed increase the funding for roads while slashing transit funding. The Senate has already traded away a significant amount of transit money in exchange for road money as it crafts its final transportation bill. Please email your state senator, Senate Leader John Hottinger, and Senate Tax Committee Chair Larry Pogemiller today and tell them to increase transit funding in their bill and not trade away transit funding as they negotiate with the House to craft a final bill to send to the Governor.

The House and the Governor believe that most Minnesotans care little about transit. The state Senate must fight these cuts. Now, before the Senate votes on their final transportation bill, is the time to make your voice heard!

Here's what we would like you to do:
Send an e-mail to your state senator and senate tax chairman Larry Pogemiller NOW. The same email will go to both senators. Let them know that they must fight the cuts to transit and send a balanced, long-term transportation funding bill to the Governor this year.

Fight for transit - don't trade it away

Dear Senator Pogemiller,

I am a transit supporter and am deeply concerned about the proposed cuts to transit this session. The Governor and House have put forth bills that increase the funding for roads while slashing the funding for transit. These cuts will raise bus fares, discontinue service and increase traffic congestion in our region. It is now up to the Senate to fight for transit.

The Senate has already traded away a significant amount of transit money as it crafts its final transportation bill.

I urge you to increase the funding for transit in your bill and not trade it away as you work with the House to craft final legislation to send to the Governor.

Transit service is very important to me - please fight for it.
