Action Alert: Pass SF1276 to fund transit!

mntransit.org

Pass SF1276 to fund transit!

You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the directions at the bottom.

Issue

Senate Finance will vote Thursday morning on transportation funding.

Background

Metro area transit faces a $62 million deficit over the next two years. The Metropolitan Council has proposed raiding the Livable Communities Act and brownfield cleanup funds (important programs that support transit) and imposing a fare increase and possible service cuts in 2010. SF1276, the Senate Transportation bill, provides a better answer. Funds from the Motor Vehicle Sales Tax on leased vehicles can be allocated (up to $30 million/year) to transit, helping to prevent service cuts and fare increases.

Please fund metro area transit with SF1276

Dear Representative,

Please fund transit by passing SF1276 when it comes to Senate Finance this week!

Like many other components of Minnesota's infrastructure, metro area transit faces a $62 million deficit over the next two years.

The Transportation Bill (SF1276) provides important money for transit by allocating money from the Motor Vehicle Sales Tax (MVST) on leased vehicles for transit in the metro area and greater Minnesota.

I know this is a difficult session for everyone. Please take this opportunity to support our transit system and the people who depend on it to get to work, to school, and around our communities.
