SF1276 needs to pass the Senate Taxes committee

Transportation bills with revenue for transit are moving through the House and the Senate.
Metro area transit faces a $62 million deficit over the next two years. The Metropolitan Council has proposed raiding the Livable Communities Act and brownfield cleanup funds (important programs that support transit) plus a fare increase and possible service cuts in 2010. SF1276 and HF1309, the Senate and House Transportation bills, provide a better answer. Funds from the Motor Vehicle Sales Tax on leased vehicles can be allocated (up to $25 million/year) to transit, helping to prevent service cuts and fare increases.

Please support transit by voting for the Senate transportation bill (SF1276) when it comes to the Tax committee this week!
Metro area transit faces a $62 million deficit over the next two years.
Both House and Senate Transportation bills provide important money for transit by allocating money from the Motor Vehicle Sales Tax (MVST) on leased vehicles for transit in the metro area and greater Minnesota. Voters sent an overwhelming message in 2006 when they passed the constitutional amendment dedicating MVST dollars on purchased vehicles to transportation. Please make sure that MVST dollars on leased vehicles are also dedicated to transportation!
In the House, HF1309 has passed through committee and will come to the floor soon. In the Senate, SF1276 will be moving through Tax and Finance committees next week.
